I was raised in a big family. Ten kids will teach you a thing or two about making food stretch.

Usually, it goes up.

Then they have the nerve to call it “new packaging” or “improved value.” Well, I have been around long enough to know a smaller bag when I see one.

It is not improved value.

It is less product for more money.

The Chips That Started It

I like potato chips. Always have.

A good chip ought to have a little crunch, a little salt, and enough flavor that you want another handful. What I started finding was bags full of air, fewer chips at the bottom, and seasoning so weak you could barely tell it was there.

I figured if I was going to pay that much, I could make something better myself.

So I did.

I started making potato chips with olive oil and seasoning them with a blend I had been working on. I made batches at home. I tweaked the recipe. I handed them out to friends and family. Before long, people were asking where they could get more.

Food Should Still Feel Worth It

I am not saying every meal has to be fancy. Most days around here, it is not.
